Day of Europe

The 8th of May we went to Bilbo to a conference. There were 4 people who had different jobs talking about how important the languages are.
Although it was something I knew, thanks  to that speech I realised they are more important than I thought.
I was really impressed with some of the people because they told us they could hold their own in 11 languages, that's amazing!
After that, they prepared a snac for us with Spanish omellettes and sandwiches, which were really good.
We didn't want to come back to Donostia because the books were waiting for us... Jajajaja :)

The Irish are coming!

Hi! How is it going?

Today we have finished all our exams and we already are in our summer holidays, I can't believe it! This year has been really short for me, and I liked it very much.

Tomorrow the Irish people are coming to Donostia to spend 6 days and we can't wait to see them. It's been a month since we last saw them and we are looking forward to seeing them again. We are planing lots of things to do, such as go to the beach, go shopping, show them the city, a dinner in a "sociedad", go party... and we may take the surfing too!

I'm sure we'll have a great time all together :)

Propositions to the EU

Last week our teacher told us to think of some propositionsfor the EU representatives to improve the poverty and exclusion and to promote equal opportunities for young people.

I've been thinking about it and two things came to mind:

1- Paying less to the politicians would be a good idea, so that we use that money in grants for young people, who can't afford to study in universities.

2- We could join in different NGO's and help EU getting better in different ways.

What do you think? :)

Understanding the Financial Crisis

Campaign activity

In the project we are doing at school, each of us has a job to do. For example, Usue and I have been doing the presentations, which consisted in taking all the power points thst were done about the poverty and exclution in Europe (about 8) and making it one, with the best graphs and images. Now, we are supposed to translate them into Basque and Spanish, although I don't think we'll have time due to the fact that we are in exams.

Another thing I did was the poster with the help of some classmates and put the sloggan on it. This is how it looks now :)

Atzegi

Last week some girls came to our school to give us information about doing voluntary work. One of them talked about Atzegi, which is really interesting, and I think it is a good idea to explain a little bit what it is about, because OUR SCHOOL IS ATZEGIZALE!

Atzegi (a Guipuzcoan Association in favour of the people with intellectual disability) was created in the year 1960 by a group of relatives that joined to fight in favor of some rights. Today, more than 50 years later, Atzegi continues fighting to improve the quality of life of the people with intellectual disability and also of the families and continues being a place of union and of solidarity between all of them.

They try disabled people not to be alone, giving them new oportunities and asking help to volunteers.

Ireland

We've recently done an exchange with some Irish students. We went to Ireland for six days and stayed in families. It hasn't been my first exchange because last year I went to Italy.
It has been really enjoyable! We've visited lots of places: Dublin, Athlone...
We got on very well with the Irish and with their families. We now know a new culture, different from ours in some aspects, such as in the timetables, in food...
They are coming next week and I can't wait to see them!

I find exchanges very useful and great fun! Here you are a picture of all of us together in Dublin :)

Where do you see Europe in the Basque Country?

How would you answer that question with a picture? I've been thinking about it, and the only thing that came to mind was the map the appears on money. It's there where I see Europe in the basque Country :)

Advertisment for voluntary work

Our teacher asked us to add a draft on the advertisment we are doing in a few days. Usue, Uxue, Paula and I have recorded it today. There are some other ads made by the other groups and at the end we will have to choose the best one. Let's see if that's ours :)

DO VOLUNTARY WORK

This is the poster we did. We still have to put the sloggan on it!

Poverty and exclution in Europe

Usue and I have made a presentation about the poverty and exclution in Europe due to the crisis. There are some interesting images and graphs for an easier understanding. Would you like to have a look? Here's the link.

Poverty and marginalization

3rd term

What are we going to learn about on the 3rd term?
Well, given that the crisis is a recent and a close subject, our teacher thought that it would be a good idea to learn about it. I was looking for information, and I found a really interesting place with news about the crisis to keep you up to date. Are you interested? Here is the link then!

Eurozone crisis

As we know, there are NGOs trying to stop the poverty not only in Europe, but all around the world. I've also found a page with different NGOs that help in different places. It's worth to have a look, so here's the link.

Carnival

Next weekend it is Carnival and thanks to that we've got three days of holiday. The second term has finished so that is going to be a good way to celebrate it. I love Carnival because I can see many different customes and it is really fun to meet other teenagers. My custome? I'm sorry but I can't tell you... It is a secret ;) Perhaps I'll add a picture of my friends and I in Carnival in the next post... Who knows?

Globalization explained (by explainity)

Any doubts about what globalization exactly is? Here you're an easy and clear expanation of it! :)

Have you ever helped an NGO?

On this term we've been finding information and getting an insight into some NGOs. Apart from that, our teacher asked us if we've ever helped any NGO. I've been thinking about it, and something came to mind although I'm not very sure if it was helping an NGO or not. The thing is that some years ago, due to the bad weather the beaches from Donostia, especially Zurriola,  got all dirty with plastic bags, branches, seaweeds and so on. Seeing that,  Patagonia the shop organised an event which consisted in cleaning the beach all together as a voluntary work. I thought it would be fun, I went there with some friends and we cleaned up the beach. Look at the video that comes next, we did a good job!

Worlds Population Graph

Usue and I have done a graph where we can see the worlds population and its increase between the years 1650 and 2004. It is impressing!

Surfrider Foundation

These days we've been learning about ONGs and our teacher asked to choose one of them and do an article. Usue and I have chosen the Surfrider Foundation. Do you care about the environment? Do you want to gain an insight into this ONG? If so, have a look at our interesting article! We hope you like it!

Globalization

Last day, in the eleanitza class we did an activity which consisted in saying the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the world GLOBALIZATION. They were a lot the words which were written in the blackboard: USA, nike, global warming, China... It was a fun activity, and then our teacher asked us to take some pictures about those things.
